Summer Camps

Sheriff's Adventure Camp

The Leon County Sheriff’s Office Adventure Camp is hosted annually by the Department of Youth Services and seeks to serve a diverse group of students who are currently in grades 5th-8th. The camp provides students an opportunity to create bonds with each other and with law enforcement. Each day provides a series of activities that promotes cooperative learning in a fun, adventurous environment.

Students learn CPR and how to properly use an AED while learning additional medical information from Leon County EMS personnel. Students participate in team-building exercises and visit a variety of local establishments which offer an adventure. Each week, the students are involved in a community service project to emphasize the importance of helping others. School Resource Deputies work closely with DISC Village New Horizons Program counselors who serve an integral role in the development and counseling of youth.

Students attending the Adventure Camp are allowed to meet the Leon County Sheriff’s Office K9 unit and SWAT team. They witness demonstrations and have lunch with the Sheriff and his command staff.

This signature program is offered for two weeks during the summer. The camp is limited to no more than 30 students per session and is offered to attendees at no cost, which includes breakfast and lunch every day.

If your youth is interested in participating in our Summer Camp, have them contact their School Resource Deputy. Don't wait, as space is limited! All applications will be reviewed by May 1st and participants will be notified. The remaining applicants will also be notified and will be placed on a waiting list at their request.

The Florida Sheriff’s Youth Ranch - The Florida Sheriffs’ Youth Ranches provide a positive camping experience for many of Florida's deserving children. The purpose of the camps is to provide a wholesome atmosphere and positive camping experience for boys and girls (ages 10-15). The camp also provides an opportunity for deputy sheriffs and other law enforcement volunteers to personally engage youth youngsters and form positive, healthy relationships. Campers live among their peers, learning how to share and function properly within a group setting. Every day contains a healthy balance between work and play, proving valuable lessons for maturing youth. Participating Leon County youth attend the Caruth Camp-Inglis/Yankeetown at no cost.
